How to Setup - Instructions

Purpose of the Magic Stick is to create a one stop shop for our customers. One website that does everything relating to XBMC/ Kodi. It offers our customers Free tech-support for life, provides you a detailed instructional guide, gives you access to the most helpful  XBMC/ Kodi instructional  that addresses the most common issues. We encourage you to add our website to your favorites list, and check up on us from time to time because we intent to continuously update our guides and sell only the best quality, fastest products at reasonable prices. With Seven Years of experience, we guarantee you will get the best value for your money and the most RELIABLE setup possible. 

Even if you don't purchase from us, enjoy our resources free of charge. However keep in mind our guide is designed for our setup, so even though a lot of it is relevant to our Magic Stick in general, many features we mention will not be on your device if you did not purchase from us. Such as the  premium addons, adult content, kids content, maintenance tools,  etc. 


DETAILED INSTRUCTIONAL GUIDE- THE MAGIC STICK TV STREAM

• GETTING STARTED (Amazon units)

1. Plug in the power cable to your unit
2. Plug in the HDMI cable and connect it to the Tv
   • Amazon fire tv sticks plug directly into the HDMI port of the tv
3. Connect to the internet via ethernet cable (box only) or wifi by following directions on the screen
4. The main screen will ask you for your amazon account, if you don’t already have one, you will need to make one, it is free 
   • If it asks for your credit card information, make the account on your computer (No credit card required) and then use the login on the device. 
   • Our android units don't require a log in account.
5. Once you see the Amazon fire tv main screen, using the remote, Click Settings-applications-manage all installed applications- launch Kodi. You can also launch KODI by Double clicking the Home button on your remote.  This is where you will need to go every time for all of your free content, as advertised.

Go to:  Programs - Program Addons - Indigo - Addon Installer - Featured Addons - Click on Exodus - Click Install - Press OK once installed (ALL DONE)

Go to:  Programs- Addon Installer - Featured Addons - Exodus - Install - Press OK once installed (ALL DONE)

UPDATE 3/01/16

• FIRESTARTER EXCEPTION CLEARING LOGCAT FAILED FIX:

Go to: Amazon Main Screen - Settings - Developer Options - Make sure "ADB Debugging" & "Outside Apps" are turned ON.  Next go to: Settings - Installed Applications - Firestarter - Open Firestarter - Update - Update to Latest Version for BOTH Firestarter 3.2.2 & KODI 16.0 - INSTALL.  Once they are both installed and updated, restart the device to refresh setting.  ALL DONE!

• Background wallpaper changed or looks different?

1. Had a few customers mention that their background changed recently when the CONFLUENCE background automatically updated itself.
2. Changing your background is simple.
3. Go to Systems-appearance- Skins- Change it from Confluence to whatever look you prefer. Please note that choosing a different setup may slow down your device.
4. If for some reason you do not see what you like as an option, click get more and then choose 

• Reset or Fix the double click home button to launch Kodi Option 

1. This only applies to the amazon units.
2. If the Fire starter app updates itself (which it doesn't but if somehow that happens), it's possible this function will need to be reset, here are the directions for that.
   • NOTE: These directions are also relevant to buyers of the New amazon fire tv 4k Box who will need to update Fire start app, and then follow directions below to enable this double click feature.
3. Go to Settings-applications-Manageinstalledapplications- scroll down to FireStarter and click launch application
   1. It may automatically ask you if you want to update the Firestarter app, if it does, click yes and follow directions on the screen to update the fire starter application.
   2. if it doesn't ask, then there is a update option inside the app, use that option to update Fire starter. THEN
4. Click on Settings-press the right button on the remote and scroll down to
   1. "Home button Double click Application"- Choose Kodi
5. Then press the home button to get out of the application
6. Double click of the home button should now launch Kodi. Restart the box if it doesn't work in the first couple tries. 
   • NOTE: It's normal if the screen flickers a few times when you launch Kodi.

• Enabling and disabling Autoplay for Salts and Genesis (1 click system to launch movie or tv shows)

1. Some customers like to choose between links, others like the convenience of autoplay. 
2. If you would like to enable or disable the autoplay setup, its very simple to do. 
3. Click on tv on demand, then click tools, then Playback
4. Scroll down to AutoPlay, you can check or uncheck it, and click Ok. 

GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING
(Fix to 90% of issues most customers face regarding Buffering issues and error messages)

• STEP ONE
  1. Step one fixes a majority of issues, if it doesn't work, follow directions for step two. 
  2. For Amazon units- Go to settings-application-manageallapplication-kodi-click force stop-click delete cache (not data), then unplug the power, plug it back in, and launch Kodi and see if it fixed your problem.
  3. Now exit Kodi reboot your device, by reboot we mean click on the "quit" button under the power tab, and then unplug the power to the device and plug it back in.
  4. It's important to delete the cache regularly from the applications tab
• STEP TWO
  1. If your device is experiencing a lot of error messages such as "one or more items failed to play"
     • These error messages simply mean that either the add-on is down for repair/update Or that specific link is not working and you need to try a different link. This is a standard error message, it DOES NOT mean that something is wrong with the device so please don't be concerned.
     • If this error comes up for every single link you click on, then either the add-on is down for repair, or your device is not getting a strong wifi signal. Even if you pay for 100mbps per month, that does not mean that is your internet speed,  since Internet speed can vary from room to room in your home because your wifi signal gets weaker as you move away from your router.
       1. First test your internet speed in the room where you are using the device
          • http://www.speedtest.net
          • You want your speed to be above 10mbps download, anything less than 5mbps usually has a lot of buffering issues. 
       2. Next try moving the unit to a room that is open and closer to the router, such as the living room.
       3. If you have the fire tv box, you can also try to hardwire the ethernet cable from the router or modem to the box for better performance.
• Regardless of what problem your unit is experiencing, this general troubleshoot is worth performing because it can only help, theres no down side. 

LIVE TV Issues? (Detailed list of recommended live tv add-ons below.) 

1. If you are experiencing issues with Ivue tv guide, it is because Ivue mainly uses iptv stalker which is no longer Free. Therefore we recommend using live tv add ons instead (list below).
2. Currently we add the best live tv add ons under our live tv tab, but another amazing sources for live tv is Castaway, Woody (under phoenix) Mobdro, Dextertv,  Livetvnowplus, Cloudtv, and Other add ons available to download under the video addons section. 
3. Note: There are several other PVR clients that are disabled for good reason, please don't mess with them unless you know what you are doing. 
4. I will continue to provide updates on the live tv tab here in the future as well, so please bookmark this page.​ 

What “Add-ons” you want to use?

1. For movies and tv shows use “1channel” or “FreeProjectTv or “Icefilms” or "Exodus (formally Genesis)". 
2. For Sports use “Sportsdevil.” Good sources inside Sportsdevil are stopstream, vipbox, and firstrowsports.ge
   1. SportsAccess is also a great source for live sports in Hd Quality but it is not free, visit their website for details. Their prices are fairly affordabe 
3. Quality for live sports can vary so its always best to play with a few links and choose the one providing the best quality stream. 
4. Note: The picture below is a list of our personal recommendation. We update this list regularly so this is a good place to come and check if something better has come along. Our Ebay listing and buy now section is also a good place to determine what add ons are the best currently available.
5. Note: These are our personal recommendations, list is in order of preference from top to bottom. There are hundreds more add-ons installed, the more you search and explore, the more likely you are to find something that suits your needs. But personally, I use Mobdro, 1channel and Genesis most of the time I’m using my Amazon fire tv.

IVE TV / Android App NOTE: All of our devices now come with Castaway and Phoenix, they are excellent sources of Live Tv. If yours doesn't have it, you can download it through the kodi marketplace, which is installed. 

Getting rid of "SEARCH ERROR : NO Result"

1. Some customers are experiencing an issue where in the bottom right corner of the screen this search error pops up and doesn't go away, follow steps below to fix this issue.
2. Go to Systems-Addons- Enabled Addons- Services
3. Click on twitter and disable it. 
4. That should fix it, then back out to the main Screen, and exit kodi by clicking the power button in the bottom left corner.​

IMPORTANT NOTES

1. Kodi is the new name for XBMC. So keep in mind that XBMC, and Kodi are the same thing
2. Do not click on “delete data button.” It is located under Kodi launch button on the main amazon screen. There is also a button for clearing cache next to it, you can click that from time to time but it will not clear the bulk of the cache that needs to be cleared. To properly clear cache, follow directions below. If you delete data and a problem arises you will need to bring the device in for repair.
3. All of the “add-ons” have been set up to automatically update themselves when you turn on KODI so you never have to worry about updating the addons
4. You need high speed internet for these device to function properly because they stream all the content
   1. You can go to Speedtest.net to check your internet speed. 30mbps or more download speed is recommended
5. Place the item in an area with strong internet connection, open area such as living rooms have stronger connections than bedrooms. 
6. The skin is designed to work with out setup, so its best you don't try to change it. I could mess with the functionality of the unit.

Deleting Cache to make Amazon fire tv run smoother (buffering problems)

1. This only needs to be done once a week to to avoid cache from building up.
2. You can delete cache directly from our favorites tab now
   1. Our Favorites tab has 2 options to delete cache (raw maintenance and delete cache). Even though both of them do the same thing, its good to delete cache using both to ensure its all erased. 
3. If you have an older version Click the program tab on Kodi's main screen, click on maintenance tool, then click on general Maintenance, and then choose “clear cache”
4. Note: You want to use this method to delete cache, deleting cache from the amazon main page will not erase a bulk of the cache from add ons inside Kodi. 

How to remove unwanted add-ons (including adult add-ons)

1. Under our instructional videos, we have a video that also walks you through this.
2. This would keep unwanted add-ons from updating when you turn on your Amazon fire tv and enter Kodi. I recommend removing addons you don’t see yourself using to make the box/ stick run even smoother. 
3. Also this section is meant for parents that want to remove adult add ons because they have kids.
4. Click on the Video Tab on the main kodi screen, click on Video Add-ons
5. Go to the add-on you no longer want, but don't click on it as you normally would, instead click on it with the Menu button (has 3 lines on it)
6. Click now on Add-on Information, and choose uninstall. 
7. If you want the add-on back, follow directions below to add add-ons through add-on installer. 
8. Here is a complete list of adult add ons we add, so you can make the device kid friendly.
9. Empflix, Erotik, Fantasti.cc, lubetube, tube8, VideoDevil, and Youjizz

Remote won't work?

1. If for some reason the remote does not seem to work with the device, it simply needs to be programed to the box. VERY SIMPLE TO DO
2. You just hold down the home button for 30 second, then wait 10 seconds,  Try this a few times, sometimes it takes a couple tries before it works. 
3. Make sure the batteries are in the remote, and the batteries are in the right way
4. If it doesn't work the first time, try again.

Mirror Android Device- "Airplay" for android phones/tablets

1. Your device must be running android software 4.2 jellybean or higher.
2. On your Fire TV Stick, select Settings > Display and Sounds > Enable Display Mirroring.
3. On your Miracast-certified device, connect to your Fire TV Stick/box. 
4. Press any button on the remote to stop Display Mirroring. 

PLEX

• One free app available through the amazon app store is called PLEX, it comes highly recommended because it allows for mirroring with apple devices and android devices. It also has lots of other capabilities. Currently it is listed as free, but in the future it may not be.

Mirroring Apple devices—Airplay for apple devices.

1. Kodi has mirroring built into its software now so mirroring is easier than ever, and should pop up as "Kodi" on your apple device. However, If that doesn't work, you can follow these directions. 
2. To mirror apple devices such as IPhones, Ipads, MacBook’s etc, you have to go into the amazon app store and download an app. You have several apps to choose from, some are free and some are not.
3. One free app that has gotten good response is called “airbuddy”.
4. The app with the best reviews is not free and is called “AirPlay/DLNA Receiver”
5. Again, Plex has gotten good reviews and is capable of mirroring to android and apple devices. Currently it is free, but this may be a limited time offer.
   
   

Soft reset of your device

1. NOTE: You want to do this soft reset every 6 months or so, or if specific add ons or kodi functions are not working. Keep in mind however that add ons can go down for repair and update so many times you just have to wait and this won't fix the issue, but overall this fixes about 70 percent of issues that come up.
2. Go and click on the programs tab in Kodi
3. Click on program addons and then click on Configwizard
4. Then
   1. For amazon units click Amazon or FTV
5. Click yes on the popup.
6. When the software is done running. Exit Kodi. Turn off the device and turn it back on.
7. Usually this fixes any problem you are experiencing with addons
8. If it doesn’t fix it, then the addon is down, and you should wait a few days, usually an update is released and the addon is working fine again.

ZERO CACHE (buffering problem FIX)

1. This seems to work very well to fix buffering issues. It moves the cache location from xbmc to the harddrive of your device. So this way the a lot more cache can be downloaded, but this will fill up your harddrive, so you still have to clear cache regularly (using directions above). You need to delete cache from the favorites tab once a week, otherwise it will fill up your hard drive. If you can't remember to regularly clear the cache, then don't enable the zero cache system.
2. In order to enable the zero cache system, launch Kodi, Click on the Programs tab- then Maintenance tool- Then System tweaks- then enable Zero Cache- Click yes on the popup.
3. Then back out, quit kodi. Unplug the power to your device and plug the power back in. When you go back into Kodi, the zero cache system will be enabled.

​Adding you city to the weather tab

1. Go to the weather tab, click on it, then click the left button that brings up the options
2. click settings, press right button and click on settings again
3. Then click locations, and enter your city. 

Adding shows to favorite lists within any Add-on.

1. First you search for your favorite show within the add-on such as 1channel or genesis.
2. Once you have found the show. Using your remote, press the menu button until a screen appears.
3. This screen will give you several options, including the option "add to favorites."
4. Now you can go to the tv show or movie section of 1channel, and click on the favorites and it should appear.  

Adding more or Reinstall “Add-ons” to the Video tab (Option 1)

1. Theres a video shows how this works, under our video guides page. 
2. Once inside Kodi, click on the "Video" tab itself, then choose "video add ons" 
3. Scroll to the bottom, and choose “add more” option
4. Now there is a long list of addons available with descriptions, click on any addon you may be interested in and click install.
5. It takes about a minute for the newly added “add-on” to appear under your main list of add-ons.

 
Adding more or reinstall add-on using “Addon installer” (Option 2)

1. Theres a video shows how this works, under our video guides page. 
2. ​This is mainly what you will want to use to add more add-ons. 
3. You can search by name or category. Downloading another addon is very simple with this setup. 
4. Inside Kodi, Go to the programs tab, click on it, and then click Add-on installer.
5. Once you are in there, the addons are organized, and you can click and add whatever add-on you like.

 

Adding International content add ons (Option 2 applied to international add-ons)

1. Click on the Kodi app, launch it
2. Go to the programs tab, click on it, and then Add-on installer.
3. Click on the world section and click on the repositories, which the language you want downloaded. You may also want to get a piece of paper, and make a note of the names of the repositories you clicked on.
4. Now back out to the main Kodi screen, click on SYSTEM tab, click on ADDONS
5. Click on Get add-ons, here you will see the repositories you downloaded.
6. One by one go into the ones that you wrote down on your piece of paper earlier.
7. Click on the name of the repository, then video add-ons, and then click on each add-ons you want and choose install
